Background

Students were asked to design and create a steady hand game that would help improve hand and eye coordination. The theme of the game should be something related to the students’ likes or dislikes or should be focused on an issue that the students felt was important.
Students were introduced to basic electronics. They learned about electrical symbols and circuits. Sensing circuits were modelled on modelling boards and students were taught how to prepare a printed circuit board.
Students had 9 weeks (12 periods of an hour each) to complete the project and the work was done during normal teaching hours in the school. Only certain parts of the write-up were done at home by the students.
Students were allowed to look at previous students’ work, to seek advice of the electronics engineer and the wood workshop technician present in that school, and to use the Internet to collect all relevant information. They could also use a school textbook related to design technology. The technology department provided all essential materials.
